ARTIST BIO

I have been interested in art since childhood.  I grew up in Grey Lynn, Auckland Central. I have travelled to the UK and Australia though remain an Auckland based artist and designer, for now.

I work with a wide range of media though widely known aerosol art murals, i also use objects, paint or ink and brush through to digital, graphic design, screen-printing and what ever else I can get my hands on. Naturally I can use these skills together to create artwork and design, this means I am well rounded being able to pick up and run with almost any project that is thrown at me.

My work consists of large-scale mural work, paintings, printmaking, illustration, t-shirt design, installation, magazine design and layout, package design, identity design, film set painting and hand painted signage.

In 1991 I was introduced to the world of graffiti art, which has shaped my views and ideas about art, advertising, and society. Emerging in the 90s then by 2000 I had become an established figure in the New Zealand graffiti art scene, which gave me many opportunities to develop my practice further. Since, I have travelled the country and over seas taking part in hip hop and graffiti events including live painting at the 2001 and 2002 Hip Hop Summit in and around the Aotea Centre, and the “Respect” exhibition, a show that presented the stories of people within the Hip Hop culture in Aotearoa, at the New Dowse in Lower Hutt where my work was purchased by the gallery.

Though originally coming from a DIY self taught school of thought. In 2006 I enrolled at Elam School of Fine Arts, where I expanded my knowledge and understanding of the art world and became more open minded in terms of other work as well as giving me a better understanding of my own.

I later took part in art and festival events which included Graffiato in Taupo and Street Prints Mauao in

Mount Maunganui 2015 where I worked with other New Zealand street artists on a large scale,

and Splore, a three day music and art festival where I worked with the Cut Collective,

UK-based Emma Underhill from UP projects, and architect Jasper Middleton, we created the successful Portavillion structure for Splore festival 2012.

After being part of many group exhibitions over the years along side local and international artists, in 2011 I produced my first solo art show, “Last Gasp”, at Ninety Gallery, where I showed a great body of work that I put a lot of time in to over this exciting year. I also worked intensively on developing and promoting the show. The exhibition was a huge success with a large turn out on the opening night. It sold well and had a good review in the Australian online magazine Invurt.com.

I have also been involved in many design projects such as t-shirts, flyers, and commissioned artwork. I was commissioned to paint a wall in the foyer of Media Design School in 2005, where I have recently completed a Diploma of Graphic Design and Graduated with highly commended in Illustration in 2013. Since then I have had another solo art show titled “Just because” in 2014 and I’ve been involved in many other events and painted and designed countless of projects etc.

I have much passion and enjoyment for my work and with this extensive knowledge of art and design and my ever-growing reputation I intend to work hard to push my work as far and as wide as I can.
